Ray took the contract and negotiated a deal with the Cleveland Mob … If he Killed the Irishman he would have half the territory between Cleveland and Erie, Pa. Ray did the job… The Cleveland Mob didn’t want to pay off… so they put a hit on him… He didn’t have much choice and flipped. He did four years for four murders and went into the Federal Witness Protection Program but walked out after a year and returned to Erie. He married Susan DeSanto and lived another 25 years and died of natural causes. Susan who was the first Greatest Love of My Life, Mary Ellen DeSanto older sister wrote this book “ An Assassin Scorned” telling Ray’s side of the story how he was double-crossed by the Cleveland Mob.In 1976 – 78 I lived with my father in Akron Ohio doing my machinist apprenticeship in his Tool & Die Mold Shop… 32 miles away in Cleveland Ohio Danny Greene “The Irishman” from “Kill the Irishman” took over the Italian La Casa Nostra in Clevleand. They tried 8 times to kill Danny Greene… there were 36 bombings in Cleveland during that period. Cleveland had to go to New York City to “Fat Tony” Salerno who said he was going to call in a professional… from Little Erie Pennsylvania… Raymond Ferritto….
